Fathoms 12/11/16 v Bloxwich

Stafford 2 – 0 Bloxwich

Kirstie Shiner scores a brace to give her team a well deserved win over their rivals Bloxwich on Saturday afternoon at Beaconside.

The newly formed fathom’s team is a mix of under 13s and ‘back to hockey’ ladies playing in a friendly development league. On Saturday they proved they could be well organised and able to work well as a team.

Two youngsters, Allanah Williams and Jess Twigg working hard together in the centre midfield roles and distributing the ball well.

Amber Smit and Ella Buckley combined well down the right flank, with Amber providing several fine crosses into the shooting circle. One such cross found Rachel Morris who nudged the ball to Kirstie who opened the scoring. Another cross was met by Grace Darby who’s strike was deflected off the woodwork.

Kirstie’s second goal came after the interval. An excellent team effort and an encouraging display.

Stafford Ladies Hockey Club has concerns as to what will happen to the good progress being made of the club’s youth development programme if there is no accessible suitable pitch in the town of Stafford after June.
