Cannock 0 – 5 Stafford
Stafford Ladies hockey Club 4th team moved up to 4th in their division with a 5 nil win over Cannock 5th team on Saturday.
Stafford took a while to settle being their first league match after the Christmas break. Stafford began to create some scoring opportunities but their attempts were thwarted by the young Cannock keeper, Alishba Rizvi.
Stafford were more in control of the match than their opponents, the Cannock attack having difficulty to penetrate the experienced and strong Stafford defence.
Just before the half time break Stafford won a penalty corner and although the first move failed Stafford kept the pressure on the Cannock defence and Poll Brazier eventually broke the deadlock and slipped the ball over the line close the post.
Another goal soon followed when Tracey Craig beat the keeper on the left post.
Going into the second half with a comfortable 2 nil lead gave the Stafford players confidence. A flurry of three goals followed in this half one by Donna Thurgarland, Tracey Craig scored her second after player of the match, Rose Whewall hit the right post and Tracey tapped it in on the left post, Bev Leng completed the tally with a strong lifted shot after some fine build up play.
