Stone 2 – 2 Stafford
Glennon Ladies Get the Points
Stafford ladies 4th team were in search of their first points of the season when they visited Stone 3rd XI this weekend. Having struggled with the level of hockey in their new division, promoted Stafford have kept up their spirits and the fight for a win.
They conceded a very quick goal within the first two minutes when Stone launched a sudden attack taking the Stafford defence by surprise. Not beaten though the team continued to counter-attack but were unable to even the score in the first half. A slight rearrangement of the team saw youngster Shannon Hendy moved from the back to midfield which injected the much needed energy allowing her to link up with Faith Glennon on the right to create some lovely attacking moves which eventually resulted in a well-worked goal for Glennon.
Stafford were elated when three minutes later they went ahead with a goal from mother Denise Glennon whose perseverance saw her efforts trickle over the line much to the surprise of the otherwise alert Stone keeper. However, the three points were not in the bag as stone immediately countered with another quick goal bringing the final scoreline to 2 all, which was probably a fair reflection of the game.
Mary Moss (65) stepped into goal when no others were around and gave a good account of herself making several saves to keep her team in the game, earning herself the man of the match award.
