Bloxwich 4 – 1 Stafford
Stafford took early control of the game and dominated the possession during the first half of the match, passing the ball freely amongst the players and attacking Bloxwich heavily in their own circle. After a number of shots on goal Dora Adams picked up a deflection close to the goal line pushing the ball over the line to take Stafford 1 goal up. The second goal was not far behind as Bev Leng received a great pass from Helena Wood in defence, Leng confidently beating three players struck the ball from the top of the circle to extend Stafford’s lead to 2-0.
Bloxwich started to come back making some strong runs down both wings, however all efforts were thwarted by strong tackles in defence winning the ball back for Stafford. Lisa Cooke took advantage of many of these balls running them down the right wing and crossing into the circle, one of which forced the ball into the circle and across the goal mouth where Julie Hackett was waiting to sweep the ball into the goal to push Stafford even further ahead taking the game to half time.
Bloxwich changed the play up a little for the second half gaining a few attempts on goal within the first couple of minutes and from a short corner they pulled 1 back to bring the score line to 3-1. Stafford were not fazed by this and stepped up their play to move the ball around and continually challenge for another goal, one attack finding a Bloxwich foot in the circle resulting in a short corner for Stafford. Donna Thurgarland received the ball at the top of the circle and before the defence could run out she smashed the ball into the left hand corner of the goal.
Stafford continued to hold the play and make many more attempts on goal during the second half however the Bloxwich defence stayed strong to keep the score to a 4-1 victory for Stafford with Lisa Cooke gaining player of the match from both teams. This sees Stafford move into 2nd in the league just behind Lichfield.
