Stafford 3 – 1 Aldridge & Walsall
A damp Saturday morning set the scene for the ladies match this week. 5 matches into the season and without a win the ladies were desperate to climb the league table with a much needed 3 points however the opposition were of the same mind set.
After a very unsettled first 10 minutes the teams fought out some dramatic end to end play only for Stafford to go a goal down when Aldridge scored from a penalty corner strike.
True grit and determination from every player on the team brought Stafford back into the game and the breakthrough came when a ball into the circle from Helen Paling was stopped by the away side’s keeper, only for Emma Clay to find the back of the net with the rebound.
Heads lifted and Stafford were back in the game and confidence at a high. Every player raised their game and Stafford soon had most of the play and were making dominating surges forward.
There were a few near misses and the score could easily have been much greater. Nevertheless Stafford’s Emma Clay went on to claim goals 2 further goals in a very stylish manner to get her hat trick and the win. Stafford deservedly coming out on top 3-1 and moving up the table from 8th place to 7th.
