STAFFORD LADIES 1STS V STAFFORD LADIES 2NDS

Stafford Ladies 1sts started the new season by playing their newly promoted 2nd team at their home ground Beaconside.

As expected both teams came out hard wanting to start the League with a convincing win. Despite much of the early possession it took the 1sts 20 mins to take the lead, when new player Kelly Irish picked up a clearance from the edge of the 2nds 'D' and scored. Before the interval Emma Clay had made it 2-0.

Despite the 2-0 lead Stafford 1sts were not content and came out in the 2nd half determined to pick up the pace and extend the lead further. The 3rd goal came from Captain Loz Davenport and she then made it 4-0 by converting one of several penalty corners with a drag flick into the corner of the 2nds goal. It was a great game to watch with both teams working hard. Stafford 1sts were once again rewarded when Becki Cotton scored twice once from open play and once from a penalty corner tomake the final score 6-0. A pleasing start to the season despite several changes to the 1st team squad.
